Jonbon faces seven in Champion Chase

Jonbon, the plum ride of leading David Power Jockeys’ Cup contender Nico De Boinville on day two of the meeting, will take on a maximum of seven rivals in Wednesday’s BetMGM Queen Mother Champion Chase.

The Nicky Henderson-trained gelding has nine Grade 1 wins to his name but none of them have come at this meeting having bumped into Constitution Hill and an on-song El Fabiolo before missing last year’s meeting due to a bug in the yard.

Up against him are Marine Nationale, who has chased home Solness on his two most recent starts, and two-time Champion Chase winner Energumene who was six and a half lengths behind Jonbon at Sandown in January.

Despite a disappointing season, last year’s Champion Chase winner Captain Guinness is back to defend his crown, with Quilixios also making the journey over from Ireland.

The field is completed by Libberty Hunter who runs in this race rather than the same day’s Grand Annual handicap.
