Another son of a successful jockey/trainer – his dad Brendan won over 700 races and partnered Rhyme ‘N Reason to win the 1988 Grand National – Brendan Powell Jr. had racing in his blood from an early stage. Indeed, he used to sit on the family’s pony Bramble in the living room watching the racing, years before he joined Jonjo O’Neill as a conditional jockey aged 16. After a strong start as a professional, Powell endured some leaner years, but has bounced back in recent times, thanks in part to the support of Colin and Joe Tizzard for whom he is stable jockey.
Biggest win this season: JPR One in the Haldon Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Exeter
