Worcestershire-based jockey Charlie Hammond is the go-to man for a number of smaller yards, putting in the miles each week to supplement his work riding out for his boss Dr Richard Newlands with trips to the likes of Max Young, Rob Summers and Stuart Edmunds. That hard work paid off in style recently with Hammond coming in for the ride on Welsh Grand National winner Val Dancer for Mel Rowley, although due to heavy fog at Chepstow it was impossible to see most of the race unfolding!
