Aged just 16, James Bowen became the youngest ever jockey to ride the winner of the Welsh Grand National in 2018 on his way to becoming the youngest ever Champion Conditional Jockey, taking the record from his older brother Sean. Attached to Nicky Henderson’s Seven Barrows stable, James has also enjoyed plenty of success for other yards, and it was a Warren Greatrex-trained horse, Saunton Surf, who propelled Bowen’s name into the headlines recently when he was trapped under it after a fall at Ffos Las. The ‘Toughest Jockey In The World’ won on Keep Running an hour later.
