Jonathan Burke was thrown into the spotlight aged 18 when he was retained to be the jockey for leading owners Alan and Ann Potts and within a month he’d won a Grade 2 on Sizing Europe, still claiming 5lb. Though the partnership with the Potts’s ended in late-2016 after Burke had a spell on the sidelines with a broken back, the Cork native has enjoyed notable success in the years since, including a Cheltenham Festival success with Love Envoi in the 2022 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Whether he will keep riding as long as his father Liam – who became the oldest race winner under rules for 100-years when scoring on Teuchters Glory at Limerick in 2023 – remains to be seen, however.
