JOCKEYS’ CUP

Jonjo O’Neill Jr. had big riding boots (figuratively, not literally) to fill from an early stage, being one of the sons of a jockey who was twice Champion Jockey in the 1970s and who was famous for being the rider of the brilliant Irish mare Dawn Run, the only horse to win the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. However, that didn’t deter the young rider, as he became Conditional Champion and rode his first Cheltenham Festival winner, both in 2019. Gave up a promising rugby career to be a jockey which, on reflection, was probably a good idea. 

Biggest win this season: Springwell Bay in the Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase at Cheltenham
