Kielan Woods wasn’t born into horse racing, but after doing a lot of hunting and showjumping he made a name for himself on the pony racing circuit and had his first winner under Rules on Heroes Square at Thurles in November 2009. Another who rode for Charlie Longsdon after moving over from Ireland, Woods has since established himself as a leading rider for several yards in the Cotswolds, and can count two Grand Annual wins – Croco Bay in 2019 and Global Citizen in 2022 – upon his CV. He’s also learned how to count the number of hits with a whip after a costly 45-day ban last season.
Biggest win this season: Fiercely Proud in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle at Ascot
