Nicolai “Nico” W. Chastel de Boinville swerved a future in politics when leaving his Newcastle University course after a matter of weeks, instead carving out a career in the saddle thanks to Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson. De Boinville turned professional in 2014 and on Boxing Day that year, he rode his first Grade 1 winner, Coneygree, going on to complete a notable double when winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the same horse the following March. He has now won more Grade 1s than any other British jockey currently riding.
Biggest win this season: Jonbon in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown
